Kanchenjunga trekking is one popular but yet unspoiled trekking trails located in the eastern part of Nepal opened for trekking in 1988. Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) is world’s third highest mountain. The trekking in the region offers infinite variety of landscapes, cultures and panoramic views of Himalayas- Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchenjunga-which are worlds five highest mountains. With this all the features, the trekking in Kanchenjunga is really rewarding. It is located on the border of Nepal and Sikkim (India). During your trekking in the area, you can see various animals-- Musk deer, blue sheep, Tahr to name a few. It is also believed that the abdominal snow man YETI exists here.

Kanchenjunga Conservation Area spread in an area of 2,035 square Kilometers, is a rich in wildlife diversity, where you can spot snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer red panda and others. The birds like, Amphibian, pheasant, red-billed blue. Kanchenjunga trek to the south and north faces offers fantastic views of Himalayas including Everest.

Kanchenjunga trekking begins from Suketar Taplejung, is accessible by air, or Basantapur. Kanchenjunga trekking passes through lush rhododendron forests you climb on into high alpine terrain beyond the village of Gunsa. A camp established on height above the village provides really astounding views of Kanchenjunga south face. Returning to Gunsa you then cross the Lapsung La pass, Selele pass and trek to the Yalung Glacier and ultimately reach to Kanchenjunga base camp. Kanchenjunga base camp trekking is still exploratory trekking in Nepal. Then you retrace your route to Taplejung, and from there you return to Kathmandu. Special trekking permit is required for Kanchenjunga trekking from government registered trekking company in Nepal.
